At the Buffalo Museum of Science
Throughout the ages, scholars and students have strived to understand how our bodies function through exploration of real human specimens. The revolutionary process of Plastination, invented by Dr. Gunther von Hagens, allows human specimens to be presented in a completely new and enlightening way. Donors who bequeathed during their lifetime that their bodies should be used for the education of lay people have made this exhibit possible.
BODY WORLDS & The Story of the Heart by Dr. Gunther von Hagens— leading public anatomist and originator of contemporary anatomical exhibitions—features more than 200 authentic specimens, including entire bodies and individual organs. The Story of the Heart presents the first functioning organ to develop after conception—which nourishes, regulates, and sustains the body throughout our lives. The exhibit is an unforgettable anatomy lesson that allows visitors to see and understand physiology and health, and gain new appreciation and respect for what it means to be human.BODY WORLDS is a unique joint work in science—a collaboration between anatomist, donors and visitors, and is the only exhibition of donor bodies. More than 27 million visitors around the world have experienced the BODY WORLDS exhibitions.
